Jim McCleery is a Utilities and Power Manager for Fluor-BWXT. His 28-year career at the PORTS site started with a job in Health Physics and has also included work in the Plant Shift Superintendent (PSS) office and as a maintenance manager.

Jim and his wife Robin live in Waverly now, but before anchoring there, he had moved around quite a lot. In fact, he has moved over 20 times in his lifetime because of his father’s work and Jim’s time in the Navy. He and his wife have two grown sons.

“We are proud of our sons who have wonderful wives and we really enjoy the two grandchildren when we can FaceTime them,” he said. “They are in California now.”

Jim also enjoys making barbecue on the smoker for his family. When he’s not on site, there’s a good chance you will find him with his wife at their custom golf club business. Their shop has developed quite a reputation for itself as Jim has been named a Golf Digest “Top 100 Best Golf Club Fitter” five times.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

“I have been very lucky to work with top notch folks all through my career… now I am very fortunate to be working with an entire group of “get it done” people,” he said. “These folks have never left since the beginning of the COVID issue. We have not had a violation and have maintained the utilities and power to the plant without fail. I’m always learning from these folks.”
