Garrick Schomburg will soon celebrate a special milestone at the PORTS site. This March, he will mark 20 years of service on site. He currently works as Fluor-BWXT’s Industrial Hygiene (IH) Section Manager in the Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) department.
“Our IH group is tasked with ensuring chemical and physical hazards are identified and properly controlled,” said Garrick. “Our work is important because its primary responsibility is to ensure employees go home safe to their families every day. I take that responsibility seriously.”
Garrick and his wife Kristie have lived in Wheelersburg for the past 16 years. They are the parents of two boys, 13-year-old Brady and 9-year-old Jaxon.
“My wife and I are both from this area and it was important to us for our kids to be raised around our friends and families,” said Garrick, who enjoys spending time with his family and is involved with his sons’ teams. “I really enjoy coaching my boys in their youth football and baseball teams.”
“I enjoy the day-to-day interaction with our Industrial Hygiene team,“ he said. “Having worked at the site for nearly 20 years, I’ve developed many relationships with folks in many different groups. Knowing the amount of hard work each team performs in the field and behind the scenes gives me a great deal of pride.”

Fluor-BWXT was formed to specifically address the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Gaseous Diffusion Plant (GDP) Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) Project.
The team brings strong Ohio roots through 70 years of combined project management experience, and 125 years of manufacturing operations both in and outside of the nuclear field.
Combined, our companies have employed thousands of Ohioans across the state and have generated millions of dollars in revenues for Ohio companies and small businesses.
