Eight years ago, Brianna Charles started her "back to school" journey at Columbia Southern University. Through Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth's Tuition Reimbursement program, she was financially able to juggle the throes of working full-time and completing college coursework.

In January 2023, she officially earned an Associate Degree of Arts in General Studies by completing online coursework.

"It was great the way the college and our Human Resources team worked with me, they made the process a breeze," Charles said. "When I first started college, it was extremely difficult to attend classes in person because in my previous job, I worked late/different shifts and I had to choose between being able to make it to class in person or stay at work to pay the bills."

Through the tuition reimbursement program and online classes, though, she was finally able to turn the dream into a reality.

"The classes were 100 percent online, with a couple of proctored exams through webcams. I was able to complete classes one at a time, instead of getting loaded down with too many, and as soon as I was done with a class, my adviser sent a reminder to sign up for the next one."

Now, Charles is the proud graduate she always wanted to be and she plans to continue pursuing a bachelor's degree. Charles is now a Project Support Associate II for Business Services.
