Fluor-BWXT Employees Donate Winter Coats

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio -- January 9, 2019 -- Fluor-BWXT (FBP) employees recently delivered 92 winter coats to the Community Action Committee (CAC) of Pike County for children enrolled in their early childhood programs and their families. The CAC serves approximately 300 children.

“Thank you so much for thinking of us, we really appreciate it,” said Diana Salyer, longtime CAC employee. “Most of our families that are enrolled are under 100 percent of the poverty level, so Headstart serves the poorest of the poor.”

In addition to coats donated by employees, Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth donated $500 from the FBP Community Commitment Fund to purchase coats.

“It was heartwarming to see how many people at the site came together to give back to those who do not have even their most basic needs being met,” said Staci Peters, FBP’s Chief Financial Officer who helped organize the coat drive.  “I truly appreciate everyone who supported this effort including those who donated coats, donated money, served as collection points and delivered the coats.  I am extremely proud to work with such generous and giving people.”

The CAC provides childcare year-round from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for infants, toddlers and preschoolers at the Pike County YMCA and at their Market Street location in Piketon. They also serve children during the school year at all sites, including Western, Scioto Valley and Eastern school districts. In addition to childcare and classrooms, the center has home visitors and advocates who work with the families to help them become more self-reliant.
